Siliguri, 15th February: Tension spread in the Porajhar area of the Dabgram-Fulbari assembly constituency after a dispute between two groups of the Trinamool Congress. A party panchayat member and his supporters have been accused of setting fire to a shop belonging to another party worker.
According to sources, the dispute began over dumping sand and stones in the area. On Saturday night, a violent fight broke out between the two groups, and later that night, the shop of the concerned party worker was set on fire. Upon receiving information, the fire brigade team reached the spot and brought the fire under control.
From Sunday morning, TMC workers started protesting in front of Panchayat member Raju Mandal’s house, demanding his arrest.
Since the incident, Raju Mandal’s family has reportedly left the area. Meanwhile, Raju Mandal was admitted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) after being injured in the clash.
Several people have been taken into custody by NJP police in connection with the incident.
