Siliguri, 11th March: The diamond jubilee year celebrations of Siliguri Vivekananda Vidyalaya began with a grand rally in Siliguri on Wednesday. The rally commenced from the school premises and moved through various parts of the city before returning to the campus.
Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, teachers of the school, along with present and former students and guardians, were present during the rally.
Several tableaux were displayed during the procession highlighting important social issues. Messages against practices like sati and child marriage were showcased, along with themes promoting women’s education and the importance of yoga.
Speaking on the occasion, acting headmaster Mohitosh Das said the programme could not be organised earlier in February due to the Higher Secondary examinations. Therefore, the diamond jubilee year celebrations were formally inaugurated with the rally on Wednesday.
He further informed that the celebrations will continue throughout the year with various social and educational programmes. One event will be organised every month, and the celebrations will conclude with a two-day special programme in February next year.
