Siliguri, 31st August: The nation enters the fourth stage of the government’s phase-wise post-coronavirus lockdown reopening, the catering industry is still struggling to recover from the losses.
As all major festivals and programmes have been cancelled in view of the novel coronavirus, the foodservice industry has been severely hit. The employees are facing numerous problems and are struggling to make ends meet. Staring at huge losses, the situation might lead to business shutdown and job losses within the sector
One such organizer stated that many people are selling vegetables on the streets and some are operating e-rickshaws due to the closure of work. He added that efforts are being made to help every employee. However, without the cooperation of the government, people involved in the industry are not able to bounce back to normalcy.
Gopal Sarkar, Joint Secretary of West Bengal Decorator Coordination Committee, said that if the celebration of upcoming Durga Puja is also suspended, people working in this field will be completely unemployed. According to him, they have not received any booking for the puja.
Sarkar maintained that no solution was provided despite forwarding a letter to the Chief Minister to help the employees associated with the industry.
