Decapitated body of elderly woman found in Jalpaiguri; drone search launched to locate missing head

Jalpaiguri, 29th March: More than 24 hours after the recovery of a decapitated body of an elderly woman in Jalpaiguri, police have intensified their investigation and launched a drone-assisted search operation to locate the missing head.


Reportedly, headless body of an elderly woman, identified as Samija Khatun, was discovered on Saturday morning in the Banijyer Hat area under Bahadur Gram Panchayat in Jalpaiguri. The incident has sparked widespread sensation in the locality.

Police from Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station immediately began a search operation, deploying sniffer dogs and conducting extensive ground searches throughout the day and into the night. However, despite continuous efforts, the severed head remained untraced.


On Sunday morning, authorities escalated the operation by introducing drones to aid in the search across nearby areas.

In a related development, it has been reported that one of the woman’s sons-in-law has been missing since the incident came to light. Following this, one of the victim’s daughters has been detained by police for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
