Siliguri, 10th March: Miscreants allegedly broke into a locked house and fled with nearly Rs 1 lakh in cash in broad daylight, creating panic in the Rajaholi area under NJP police station limits on Tuesday.
According to reports, a husband and wife had locked their house and left for work on Tuesday morning as usual. When the homeowner, Chotu Mohammad, returned home in the afternoon after finishing work, he noticed the door lock lying broken.
After entering the house, he found that a trunk inside the room had been broken open and nearly Rs 1 lakh kept inside was missing. He immediately informed his wife and neighbours about the incident.
Chotu Mohammad said that he had taken a loan a few days ago for the construction of his house and had kept the money inside the trunk.
He added that he was devastated after discovering that the cash had been stolen.
According to him, only the cash was taken and no other household items were touched by the miscreants.
On receiving the information, police from NJP police station reached the spot and have started an investigation into the incident.
