Darjeeling, 08th April: Acting on the directive issued by the Central Zoo Authority on April 06 following the New York incident, Darjeeling’s Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park has been kept under strict vigilance.
Director Rajendra Jhaker informed that special attention is being given on the cleanliness of the zoo area, and the health of animals. However, the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) have been closed from March 17 in view of the pandemic.
Darjeeling’s zoo includes an off-display breeding center for endangered species such as snow leopards and red pandas and is also home to a variety of endangered birds as well as Siberian tigers.
