Siliguri, 27th February: With the announcement of the dates for the assembly elections in West Bengal, Darjeeling District Magistrate Shashank Sethi held a press conference today.
Addressing the media, the DM informed that in view of the pandemic, the number of booths in the Darjeeling district has been increased for the assembly elections. 306 new booths will be added to the existing number of booths in the district taking the total to 1719.
The ECI, on Friday, announced that all poll officials must be vaccinated against COVID-19 before elections. In this context, the Darjeeling DM maintained that there is a total of 14 thousand frontline workers and election personnel in the district. Out of which, almost three thousand poll officials have been vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine.
Shashank Sethi further informed that the total number of voters in the Darjeeling district is 12,22,190. Out of this, 26,435 are between the age group of 18 – 19 years. There are 8982 service voters and 6982 voters with disabilities. The number of polling locations in the district is 1015.
The DM assured that the assembly election in the district will be conducted peacefully and that he will keep a close watch on every booth. Adding to this, he said that two teams of Central Corps who reached Siliguri will be conducting route march in all sensitive areas of the district
