Siliguri, 12th April: A relationship that began at a dance class has led to a fraud case in Siliguri, with police arresting a 24-year-old man accused of deceiving a woman with a false promise of marriage.
The arrest was made by the Women’s Police Station Siliguri. The accused, identified as Sandeep Dutta (24), a resident of Hemtabad.
According to police sources, the accused and the complainant met a few years ago during a dance class, where their acquaintance gradually developed into a romantic relationship. The woman has alleged that the accused established physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage.
Police further stated that the accused later became involved with another woman. When the complainant came to know about this and demanded that he honour his promise, he allegedly refused to marry her and threatened her.
Following this, the woman lodged a written complaint at the Women’s Police Station on the 1st of April. The accused had reportedly been absconding since then.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at his residence in Hemtabad under Raiganj, arrested him, and brought him to Siliguri for further legal proceedings.
A case has been registered against the accused on charges of fraud and criminal intimidation. He has been produced before the Siliguri court, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
