Siliguri, 29th May: The Darjeeling district committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) staged a ‘dharna’ against the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) in Siliguri on Wednesday.
According to reports, the protest aimed to draw attention to the challenges faced by Siliguri residents, arising from disruptions in public services and a perceived decline in law and order. The protest was led by prominent CPIM leader Ashok Bhattacharya. Significantly, the demonstration took the form of a mass sit-in at Hashmi Chowk (Venus More).
On this day, Ashok Bhattacharya stated that the state government of deceiving the people. In view of this, the protest had been organized. Notable figures including Ashok Bhattacharya and Left councilors from various wards participated in the demonstration.
