Fulbari, 25th July: On Monday evening, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) staged a protest at Fulbari Battala More, adjacent to Siliguri, in response to the harassment of women in Manipur. During the demonstration, the protestors expressed their outrage by burning an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Farida Karim, a member of the CPIM, strongly condemned the incident where two tribal women were allegedly disrobed and paraded on the streets, with a video of the act being published. She further accused the Central government of failing to provide adequate security for women. The primary objective of the protest was to seek justice and demand stringent punishment for those responsible for the violence against women. Farida Karim emphasized that if the culprits were not brought to justice, the CPIM would resort to massive agitations in the future.
