Siliguri, 28th May: CPIM councillors walk out of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) board meeting after TMC allegedly suppressed the discussion of the recent land dispute involving the Ramakrishna Mission in Sevoke Road. CPI(M) councillor Sharadindu Chakraborty alleged the TMC of refusing to address the issue.
As per reports, on Tuesday, the SMC held a monthly board meeting in the corporation office. During the motion phase of the meeting, Chakraborty alleged that the TMC Chairman Pratul Chakraborty was actively suppressing the voice of the opposition by refusing to address the issue. As a result, the CPI(M) councillors were discontented and immediately walked out of the meeting.
In response, Mayor Gautam Deb expressed disappointment over the walkout, emphasizing the importance of the opposition party’s participation. However, he defended TMC’s actions, stating that the opposition councilor’s attempt to raise the controversial discussion had crossed a line. Mayor Deb assured that all issues related to the matter have been brought to light and nothing is being concealed.
