Coronation Bridge renovation work to commence soon

Siliguri, 30th September: Renovation work of the 83-year-old Sevoke Coronation Bridge will commence after the end of the monsoons. The pillars of the bridge were damaged in the 2011 earthquake, following which immediate renovation of the bridge was demanded.


Meanwhile, heavy vehicles and trucks have already been prohibited to ply through the bridge. According to the Ministry of Road Transport, the bridge will be renovated at a cost of around Rs 75 lakh.

Meanwhile, various organizations have been demanding an alternative bridge over the Teesta river for a long time. A survey has also been carried out in this regard. According to the Ministry of Road Transport, designing work has also started related to the alternative bridge.


State Tourism Minister Goutam Deb stated that an alternative bridge is required due to the worsening condition of the Coronation Bridge. He further stated that surveys have been conducted in this regard.
