Siliguri, 06th March: A ‘Jhel Bharo’ agitation was staged on behalf of the Darjeeling District Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) in support of various demands including the withdrawal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 (CAA), the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and an increase in salaries of the tea garden workers. As part of the agitation, a rally was staged on behalf of CITU from Siliguri’s Air View More, today morning. CITU put forth their demands, through the rally and demanded that the NRC, CAA be withdrawn.
The rally commenced from the Air View More and concluded at the Sub-divisional Office after touring the various routes of the city. A huge Police force was deployed to stop the CITU rally. A barricade had also been placed by the Police. However, the Police arrested the CITU activists when they broke the Police barricade. All the activists were later released by the Police on a personal bond.
