Rajganj, 27th December: An incident that raised concerns surfaced from the Anganwadi center located adjacent to Dharagachh-II primary school of Majhiyali Gram Panchayat of Rajganj block, where the Anganwadi workers were accused of not visiting the center regularly.
According to reports, the center was allegedly locked despite being 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Consequently, the children are deprived of education and food provided under the mid-day meal. The incident agitated the villagers.
The locals alleged that a teacher and an assistant are responsible for the functioning of the Anganwadi center. However, the teacher did not show up to the center for several months and the assistant also came irregularly. The center remains closed every Saturday.
They added that both workers did not turn up at the center on Wednesday. Further, they raised concerns regarding possible accidents as the Anganwadi center is next to a state highway. This prompted them to bring the issue to the attention of the higher officials.
Meanwhile, as the teacher of the Anganwadi center was questioned, she refused to comment. On the other hand, Gram Panchayat Pradhan Sumit Dutta stated over the phone that he was not notified about the issue concerning the ICDS center. He further assured of looking into the matter.
