Chhath Puja organizers staged silent-protest at the banks of Mahananda river

Siliguri, 18th November: Several Chhath Puja organizers staged a silent protest at the banks of Mahananda river, on Wednesday.

It is to be noted that beautification work of the Mahananda river’s Lalmohan Moulik Niranjan Ghat under the initiative of Siliguri Municipal Corporation commenced recently. As part of the project, concrete railings have been put up along the river bank which has raised concerns regarding the construction of Chhath ghats along the banks.

Although the SMC workers broke down a portion of the newly constructed railings and starting building two gates, the move backfired as the Puja organizers and several people claimed that the railings made for beautification should not be demolished. They also expressed outrage as no alternative measures are being taken by the administration in this regard.

Hence, they tied black cloth on their mouths and staged an hour-long silent protest today.
