Siliguri, 30th October: The great festival of faith, Chhath Puja began today evening. Chhath worshipers performed puja at various river ghats of Siliguri and offered arghya to the setting sun. Chhathavratharis will return to the ghat tomorrow morning to worship Chhath Mata and conclude the puja by offering arghya to the rising sun.
Last two years Chhath Puja was organized in a low key due to the outbreak of coronavirus. However, this year after the virus subsided and the situation returned normal festivals including Chhath Puja are being celebrated with great fanfare across Siliguri.
Police authorities are keeping special vigilance at various Chhath Ghats with the aim of preventing any untoward incident during the puja period. Siliguri Mahananda Lal Mohan Moulik Niranjan Ghat, Naukaghat, Champasari, Mahananda and others were seen crowded with Chhathavratis who performed puja today with faith and devotion.
