Cattle smuggling attempt foiled; 40 cattle rescued, 2 arrested in Phansidewa

Siliguri, 06th July: A major cattle smuggling attempt was thwarted when police from the Bidhannagar Investigation Center in Phansidewa arrested two individuals with 40 cattle loaded in a lorry disguised as carrying vegetables.


 

The arrested suspects, identified as Mehendi Hasan (29) and Matiar Rahman (31), both residents of Kushmandi in Dakshin Dinajpur district, were apprehended during a raid on National Highway 31 in Bidhannagar. The raid led to the discovery of the cattle hidden among the vegetables in the lorry.


 

Police sources revealed that the animals were being transported from Kushmandi. The seized lorry and the arrested individuals were brought to the police station, where legal proceedings have commenced. Both suspects were scheduled to appear in the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Saturday.

 

The Bidhannagar Investigation Center police are conducting further investigations to determine any additional individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
