Siliguri, 13th April: The recovery of 13 carcasses of a rare species of vulture from the Aambari locality of Siliguri created a stir in the area.
Locals found the remains near the Karatoya River under the Majhiyali Gram Panchayat. They informed that the birds were found near the river banks, bamboo plantation and in the fields. The locals also mentioned that a few days ago the vultures had been sighted feeding on a carcass of a pig on the river bank.
Upon receiving the news, Belakova Ranger Sanjay Dutt and other forest workers reached the spot and recovered the bodies of the vultures. The forest department suspects that the birds died after consuming the pig’s corpse.
Meanwhile, the members of the Pakshi Premi Sangathan expressed concerns over the death of the endangered vultures.
