Siliguri, 02nd December: On its 59th foundation anniversary, BSF North Bengal Frontier Inspector General (IG) Soorya Kant Sharma outlined the key achievements of the past year, reaffirming the Border Security Force’s dedication to safeguarding India’s borders.
The BSF was established in 1965, while the North Bengal Frontier came into existence in 1988 and has since played a pivotal role in border security. Over the last year, operations along the India-Bangladesh border have been bolstered, with significant success in curbing smuggling and infiltration through advanced technological strategies.
At a press conference, IG Sharma highlighted the BSF’s robust relationship with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), despite challenges following Bangladesh’s new government formation in August. He noted the deployment of modern equipment such as CCTV and biometric gates to enhance border surveillance.
The IG acknowledged that 10 percent of the border lack barbed fence, but efforts are underway to address the gaps. He assured that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent infiltration, particularly in sensitive areas like the Tin Bigha Corridor, and to curb cattle smuggling.
