Brawl during liquor party near NJP leaves two injured, one arrested

Siliguri, 29th December: A brawl during a liquor party near the NJP area left two persons injured, with police arresting one accused in connection with the incident. The arrested person has been identified as Santosh Hazra.


According to police sources, on Saturday night a group of people gathered for a liquor party inside a club room at Thakur Nagar. Santosh Hazra had reportedly arranged the food for the gathering. During the preparation of food, hot oil from a frying pan accidentally splashed onto another person, triggering an argument.

The situation soon escalated, leading to a heated altercation and physical scuffle among those present. Several people sustained injuries in the clash, with two people suffering head injuries.


On Sunday, complaints were lodged at the NJP police station by both sides. The complainant, Thakur Nagar resident Prabir Mondal, alleged that Santosh Hazra, Nayan Dutta, Chiru and a few others assaulted him.

In a counter-complaint, Santosh Hazra’s wife, Mansi Hazra, accused Prabir Mondal and his associates of attacking her husband. Based on the complaints, police initiated an investigation and arrested Santosh Hazra on Sunday night.

The arrested accused was produced before the court on Monday. Police said that efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the other individuals involved in the incident.
