Jalpaiguri, 20th August: In a tragic incident, the lifeless body of an elderly man, identified as Nitai Roy, approximately 75 years old, was recovered from a pond in Gomosta Para, Paharpur Gram Panchayat, Jalpaiguri Sadar Block on Tuesday. The elderly man, a resident of Sunder Para near Danguajhar Bazar, had been missing since Sunday afternoon.
As per reports, family members had searched extensively but were unable to locate him. On Tuesday morning, a passerby noticed a body floating in a pond not far from the house. Upon hearing the news, a large crowd gathered at the scene. Family members arrived shortly after and confirmed the body as that of Nitai Roy.
The police from Jalpaiguri Kotwali police station arrived at the spot and sent the body to Jalpaiguri District Hospital for post-mortem examination. However, the cause of death remains unclear, and the family is puzzled by the incident.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
