BJP protests on Eastern Bypass in Siliguri after repeated accidents

Siliguri, 28th December: The Eastern Bypass in Siliguri has witnessed repeated tragic accidents, prompting the BJP to stage a road blockade at Ashighar More on Sunday.

It is to be noted that a few days ago, a school student lost his life in an accident near Baneswar More on the Eastern Bypass. Another incident at Ashighar More claimed the lives of two young men. Local residents have expressed anger over the administration’s alleged inaction following these accidents.

In protest, BJP members took to the streets, alleging that police negligence has led to a rising number of accidents in the area. They also raised concerns about unauthorized businesses occupying sidewalks, obstructing pedestrians and traffic, and the reckless driving of high-speed vehicles, which they say contributes to frequent accidents.

On the day of the protest, the BJP submitted a memorandum to the Traffic Department of Siliguri Metropolitan Police. The protesters warned that if another accident occurs in the Eastern Bypass area, they would escalate the movement with a larger public demonstration.
