Siliguri, 29th November: Siliguri BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh and Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Shikha Chatterjee met the project director of NH (31D), on Monday, with the demand to install street lights on the national highways.
It is to be noted that a few days ago, 4 people were killed when a boulder-laden truck overturned at Jaleshwari Bazaar adjacent to the Eastern Bypass. Several people were injured in the incident. After that, the residents became vocal about the lack of adequate lights in the area, lack of surveillance by the traffic police, and reckless movement of trucks and dumpers. To address the issue, MLA Shankar Ghosh and MLA Shikha Chatterjee met the NH (31D) Project Director at the NHAI office today.
Shankar Ghosh said, “I met the project director today to demand the installation of street lights on the national highway. He has been informed about the whole matter. Part of the national road is under the control of the centre and the rest is looked after by the state government and PWD. For this reason, I will meet the PWD officials soon.”
On the other hand, Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Shikha Chatterjee said, “The work of 2 km road in Fulbari has been suspended. Some people are not allowing the road work to be done. This is mainly why I met the project director of NH (31D) today.”
