Siliguri, 14th September: CPI(M) West Bengal State Secretary Mohammed Salim has alleged that the expectations people had from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after the change in government in the state have not been fulfilled. He made the remarks while addressing a press conference at Anil Biswas Bhavan in Siliguri on Monday, where he raised several allegations against the BJP.
Salim alleged that instead of focusing on the state’s development and resolving people’s problems, the BJP is engaged in issues such as changing names. He also criticised MPs who switched from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to the BJP, alleging that political defections are being carried out for electoral benefits and that the BJP is pursuing a politics of buying elected representatives in exchange for money.
The CPI(M) State Secretary also raised concerns over the delimitation of wards in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). He alleged that several wards had been divided to gain political advantage and said the party had raised objections to the process.
Salim also clarified that it has not yet been decided whether the CPI(M) will form an alliance with the Congress in the municipal elections.
He criticised Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s remarks regarding Left parties’ stalls during Durga Puja and also questioned the eviction drives being carried out ahead of the festival. Salim alleged that the BJP was taking several decisions without understanding the state’s history and culture.
On the Rejinagar by-election, Salim claimed that there was no rift within the Left alliance.
