Bagdogra, 29th March: During the campaign for the Matigara-Naxalbari assembly constituency in Bagdogra, a moment of courtesy was witnessed between BJP candidate Anandamay Barman and CPI(M) candidate Jharen Roy.
On Sunday, Anandamay Barman went out campaigning with party workers in Gadadhar Pally, Bagdogra. After finishing campaigns in Gadadhar Pally and Stalin Nagar, he reached Panighata Road, where he saw Jharen Roy campaigning door-to-door from the opposite side. Seeing each other, Anandamay Barman stepped forward for a courteous interaction.
Barman said that despite political rivalry, he approached the meeting observing personal courtesy and culture. He also mentioned that Jharen Roy is a senior political figure and while the political battlefield may be competitive, personal respect remains.
Jharen Roy said that the campaign has received widespread public response and that he engaged in the courtesy meeting after encountering the BJP candidate.
He added that although the two parties have different policies, personal courtesy will continue.
