Kurseong, 09th September: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha founding President Bimal Gurung offered prayers at the Giddha Mandir near Kurseong today, where he performed Shudhikaran of his party’s flag.
It is to recall, the party which was formed in 2007 on the demand for a Gorkhaland, was divided into two factions after Gurung’s after he and his aides were allegedly held accountable for a breach of peace in the Darjeeling hills. While Gurung remained in hiding, the second faction was headed by Binoy Tamang.
After Tamang announced his resignation from the party and as the President of the second faction a month ago, Anit Thapa, the General Secretary of GJM-2, was appointed as the Acting President of the party.
However, Anit Thapa announced the launching of a new political party “Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha”, on Thursday. The move has made Bimal Gurung the sole owner of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha once again. Hence, he performed rituals today symbolizing cleansing of his party flag.
