Siliguri, 27th September: Bharat Bandh called by Sanjukta Kisan Morcha created a different scenario across the city morning.
While a handful of city autos and e-rickshaws (toto) were spotted plying on the streets, not a single private bus was seen. Meanwhile, the city’s major markets, including Bidhan Market, are closed. Most of the shops on Hill Cart Road and Bidhan Road were also kept shut.
On the other hand, various parties, including CPIM, took to the streets in support of the bandh. SFI and DYFI workers stopped several vehicles in Hill Cart Road. However, they were later released. Besides, strict police surveillance is being kept since this morning to prevent any untoward incident.
