Siliguri, 08th September: The Bhakti Nagar Police have arrested an accused in connection with three separate theft cases reported in Siliguri and recovered gold and silver jewellery worth approximately ₹3 lakh from his possession.The accused has been identified as Navneet Kumar Gupta (27).
According to police sources, the first theft was reported on August 14, 2026, in the Bhupendra Nagar area, where around 6 grams of gold and 16 grams of silver were allegedly stolen from a residence.
The second incident took place on March 22, 2026, in the Betgara area of Salugara. A complaint was lodged regarding the theft of approximately 14 grams of gold and ₹15,000 in cash from a house.
The third theft was reported on August 25, 2026, in the Gitalpara area near Haiderpara, where approximately 12 grams of gold and 92 grams of silver were allegedly stolen.
Following the repeated incidents, the Bhakti Nagar Police intensified their investigation. CCTV footage from the areas was examined, while police also tracked leads related to the motorcycle allegedly used in the thefts. Based on these clues, the police traced and arrested Navneet Kumar Gupta on August 28.
According to the police, the accused confessed during interrogation to his involvement in all three thefts and provided information about the stolen items. A plain-clothes team from Bhakti Nagar Police Station subsequently recovered gold and silver jewellery worth approximately ₹3 lakh, allegedly linked to the three cases.
After the completion of his remand period, the accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday. Police said further investigation into the matter is underway.
