Siliguri, 03rd May: Bengal Safari authorities have arranged special measures to ensure that the animals are finding relief from the scorching heat. Significantly, the temperature has soared above 35 degrees Celsius in Siliguri. As a result, the animals are provided with Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) in addition to regular water intake and air coolers placed in front of and inside the enclosures.
According to reports, the animals and birds are being bathed multiple times daily in their enclosures and their water is being supplemented with ice. The park authorities and doctors are maintaining a 24-hour surveillance to monitor the health of animals and birds. Further changes have been made to the diet of all the animals and birds, including various fruits such as watermelon, apple, banana, and those high in vitamin C. Additionally, enclosures have been arranged with shed to protect the animals from the intense heat and generators have been arranged in case of power outages in the park.
In this regard, Vijaya Kumar, the director of Bengal Safari Park, emphasized the importance of heightened care for wild animals during such extreme weather conditions. He noted the significant difference in immunity levels between wild animals and humans. During periods of low atmospheric water vapour may lead to dehydration and so the animals are provided with ORS twice everyday along with ample drinking water. He highlighted the heightened measures undertaken by the park authorities to protect the animals during these extreme weather conditions.
