Bagdogra Forest Department raid recovers endangered pangolin scales, 1 arrested

Bagdogra, 07th November: The Bagdogra Forest Department has intercepted a smuggling attempt, seizing endangered pangolin scales and arresting one person in the process. The suspect has been identified as Tanuj Das.


Reportedly, following a tip-off, Bagdogra Forest Department personnel conducted a raid near Phansidewa More, where they apprehended Tanuj Das. A total of 4 kg 600 grams of pangolin scales were seized from him. The scales, reportedly brought from Assam, were intended as samples and were suspected to be part of a larger smuggling plan to China via Nepal.

Bagdogra Forest Range Ranger Sonam Bhutia confirmed that Das, a resident of North Lakhimpur, Assam, was waiting under the flyover to exchange the pangolin scales when he was arrested.
