Bagdogra, 18th August: In a foiled attempt of trafficking, the Bagdogra Forest Department apprehended a man with a container loaded with Barmatic wood. The arrested accused has been identified as Mohhammad Qayamuddin, a resident of Haryana.
According to forest department sources, during the naka checking at Fulbari Canal Road, the container broke the barricade and fled in high speed. Following which, when chased the container was retrieved on the Bidhannagar National Highway in Phansidewa. Upon searching the vehicle, Burma teak which is estimated worth Rs 50 lakhs was recovered. The recovered wood was said to be smuggled to Bihar from Assam. Following the arrest of the driver, the forest department personnel are engaged in detailed investigation of the matter.
