Attempted statue vandalism in Siliguri’s Ward No. 47: Mayor and MLA visit site

Siliguri, 13th November: An attempt to vandalize statues of prominent figures in Ward No. 47 of Siliguri sparked widespread concern. On Wednesday, Mayor Gautam Deb and Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar visited the site to assess the damage.


The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night when miscreants tried to damage statues of ten notable figures near Pati Colony. The situation came to light on Tuesday morning, causing a stir in the community. Councillor Amar Ananda Das promptly filed a complaint at Pradhan Nagar police station on Tuesday.

Mayor Deb, who arrived at the location on Wednesday afternoon, condemned the act, calling it a “very condemnable incident” and stating that such acts must be met with protest and condemnation. He also confirmed that the Municipal Corporation has sent a letter to the Police Commissioner, urging immediate identification of those responsible.


Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh also visited the area, expressing his disapproval of the incident and calling for increased security across the city. During his visit, Ghosh stopped by a nearby school, meeting students and educating them about the prominent figures.
