Attempted liquor smuggling from Assam to Bihar foiled; two arrested in Siliguri

Siliguri, 01st June: The Bagdogra police station has successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle liquor from Assam to Bihar, seizing a truck loaded with a significant quantity of liquor. The truck’s driver and co-driver, identified as Riazul Haque (22) and Samshul Haque (32), both residents of Assam, have been arrested on charges of liquor smuggling.


According to police sources, the operation took place on Saturday morning. Acting on a tip-off, Bagdogra police conducted a campaign on National Highway-31. They intercepted and searched a cargo truck traveling from Assam to Bihar.

During the search, police discovered a hidden chamber inside the truck. Upon opening it, they recovered a large quantity of liquor. In total, 54 cartons of liquor, amounting to 1,704 bottles, were seized. The value of the recovered liquor is estimated to be in lakhs.


The Bagdogra police station plans to present both accused in Siliguri court on Sunday for legal proceedings.
