Siliguri, 16th December: The moment anti-Bimal Gurung faction Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leaders Anit Thapa and Binay Tamang left for Kolkata on Tuesday, rumours regarding the duo joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surfaced. The speculation was further boiled up after a Bengali daily reported that BJP’s Kailash Vijayvargiya would meet the two GJM leaders.
Refuting the rumours, GJM – Binay faction General Secretary Anit Thapa, through a telephone conversation on Wednesday said that the news was fabricated and untrue. He claimed that they belong to Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and will continue to be GJM and will not join any other party in future.
It is to be noted, the political scenario has boiled up in the region ever since the GJM founder Bimal Gurung dramatically made a public appearance in Kolkata after over 03 years into hiding. Gurung broke all ties with the BJP and announced to support the TMC for the upcoming polls. He also addressed a mega meeting in Siliguri earlier this month highly praising TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee.
Interestingly, despite having the same ally party, the GJM-Binay faction leaders Anit Thapa and Binay Tamang have publically expressed their displeasure over Gurung’s return.
