Alipurduar teacher awarded ‘Shiksharatna’ for contributing to educating children of the tea garden

Alipurduar, 29th August: A dedicated teacher from Birpara, Joybrato Bhattacharjee, is being honored with the prestigious ‘Shiksharatna’ award this year for his contributions to education.


According to reports, Bhattacharjee began his career in 1999 as a police sub-inspector but had always aspired to be a teacher. In 2002, he took a government exam for teachers and successfully started his teaching career. For the past 22 years, he has been serving as a teacher at Birpara High School and is currently the head teacher of the school. His primary goal has been to educate the children of the tea garden and making relentless efforts on enrolling school dropouts back to school.

The location of Birpara under the Alipurduar district has a number of tea estates all located in remote areas. Several times the shutdown of a tea estate disrupts the education of the local children. Meanwhile, Joybrato Bhattacharjee is bringing in students to continue with their education.


In regard to receiving an award, Bhattacharjee expressed that he chose the teaching career to help build the people and the society. He acknowledged receiving the award and expressed gratitude to his supporters for their role in helping him achieve it. He mentioned that the award was a collective achievement shared with everyone.
