Accused in Siliguri’s Sevoke Road hit-and-run case sent to four-day police remand, bail rejected

Siliguri, 24th February: In the Sevoke Road hit-and-run case, the accused, Debanshu Pal Chowdhury, was produced in court by Panitanki Outpost police. Before the hearing, family members of the deceased, Shankar Chhetri, staged a protest demanding strict punishment.


A heated debate over bail took place between the defense and the victim’s lawyers in court. Considering the gravity of the case, the judge rejected the bail plea and ordered a four-day police remand for the accused. The next hearing is scheduled for 28th February.

The victim’s sister said the fight to get justice for her brother has now begun. Victim’s lawyer Abhay Chatterjee described the incident as a premeditated act and urged the court to impose strict punishment. Police continue their investigation into the case.
