Siliguri, 15th January: The Eastern Bypass in Siliguri has become a hotspot for frequent accidents, claiming the lives of several people. The BJP, led by BJP’s Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Sikha Chatterjee, staged a 1-hour roadblock, demanding immediate action from the administration.
This comes after a tragic incident on Monday evening where a 5-year-old lost his life in an accident at a Bhari More on the Eastern Bypass. The area has witnessed numerous accidents, prompting local leaders to take action. On Wednesday, MLA Sikha Chatterjee and BJP workers gathered at the site to protest against these accidents.
Previously, the MLA had raised concerns about the lack of proper lighting and traffic management on the Eastern Bypass, but no action was taken. She accused the administration of negligence, which has led to these fatal accidents.
MLA Sikha Chatterjee pointed out five liquor shops on the Eastern Bypass, where proper street lights, barricades, and traffic control measures have been implemented. However, no such measures exist along the rest of the road, leading to accidents. She mentioned that despite multiple protests in the past, no solution has been provided, and warned that if the administration does not address the issue soon, they would be forced to launch a larger movement.
