Accidental gunfire after guard’s gun falls inside bank in Bidhannagar, five injured

Phansidewa, 06th January: Panic broke out after accidental gunfire inside a nationalised bank at Bidhannagar in Phansidewa, leaving five people injured. The incident occurred when a security guard’s gun fell from his hand and fired inside the bank premises.


According to sources, the security guard was on duty inside the bank when the firearm slipped and went off. As a result, several people present inside the bank sustained bullet injuries to their legs. Among the injured are one minor girl and two women, taking the total number of injured to five.

Police reached the spot after receiving information and rescued the injured. They were given primary treatment and later shifted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for further medical care.


Police from the Bidhannagar Investigation Centre seized the firearm involved in the incident. On receiving the information, the SDPO of Naxalbari and the CI of Naxalbari also reached the spot.

Following the incident, the bank has been temporarily closed. Police have started an investigation into the matter.
