Fulbari, 28th February: With Holi just around the corner, ‘abir’ manufacturing units in the Champadanga area near the Fulbari border are operating at full capacity to meet the rising seasonal demand.
Workers are engaged from morning till late at night producing abir in various colours including red, green, yellow and pink. Factory authorities said demand has increased significantly this year compared to previous seasons, resulting in extended working hours for labourers.
Jiban Mondal, a worker at one of the units, said abir has been manufactured in the Champadanga area for nearly two decades. Raw materials are sourced from Bhutan, following which the coloured powder is processed and packed locally.
The finished products are supplied to several markets including Siliguri, Islampur and Raiganj. Manufacturers said the demand trend remains strong this year as Holi approaches, keeping production units busy throughout the day.
