Siliguri, 12th April: Ahead of the polls in Darjeeling district, Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee addressed a public meeting at Batasi in Phansidewa. He spared no chance to take a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and lambasted Dilip Ghosh, saying, “If you don’t correct yourself, incidents that happened in Darjeeling will occur in many places.’
This comes after Dilip Ghosh, on Sunday, stated that more Sitalkuchi-like incidents may happen if “dustu chheles (naughty boys) like the ones who received bullets in Sitalkuchi” try to take the law into their hands. Later Rahul Sinha, BJP’s candidate in the Habra constituency, also made a controversial remark on the Sitalkuchi incident. “Eight people should have been killed by the central forces instead of four in Shitalkuchi. An 18-year-old boy was shot dead in public at a polling station for doing [supporting] BJP. And their leader is Mamata Banerjee,” Sinha said.
In this context, Abhishek Banerjee said that there will be no more incidents such as Sitalkuchi in Bengal. However, there will be Darjeeling-like incidents in many places if Dilip Ghosh fails to check his words.
It is to recall, Dilip Ghosh was attacked in Darjeeling a few years ago. The workers who were with him were also attacked.
Abhishek Banerjee further reminded the people that Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee has urged all to look into the development works carried out in the state in the last 10 years and vote accordingly.
“If you have a sense of conscience and humanity, prove that no one in Delhi had a hand in the Sitalkuchi incident by expelling Rahul Sinha and Dilip Ghosh from the party,” Abhishek Banerjee said, further taunting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
