Siliguri, 08th December: In a significant breakthrough, the Pradhan Nagar police rescued an 8-year-old girl from the clutches of her kidnappers in Sitalkuchi within 6 hours and arrested the accused. The arrested kidnappers have been identified as Pooja Das (28) from Champasari and Nazrul Islam (28) a resident of Cooch Behar.
As per details gathered, on Thursday morning, an 8-year-old girl from the Champasari area left for school when she encountered the accused Pooja Das after travelling some distance. The accused reportedly coaxed the child, forced her to sit in the car, and drove away. On the other hand, the girl’s family was distressed due to her sudden disappearance. Despite several efforts, the family members were unable to trace her location. In the meantime, the girl’s father filed a missing report at the Pradhan Nagar police station.
Based on the complaint, the Pradhan Nagar police station launched an inquiry and began examining the CCTV footage from the camera installed in the Champasari area. Video evidence revealed the moment during the abduction. Subsequently, the authorities used the CCTV footage to identify the accused woman. Upon tracing the woman’s phone number, the tower location indicated her presence in Sitalkuchi.
Following this, a special team from the Pradhan Nagar police station set out for Sitalkuchi, and the girl was safely rescued from the grips of her kidnappers. The accused Pooja Das and Nazrul Islam were apprehended on charges of kidnapping. On Thursday, both accused were presented before the Siliguri Court while the police are further probing the crime.
