Siliguri, 26th January: Along with the rest of the country, the 77th Republic Day was celebrated at the Siliguri Police Commissionerate with various programmes. The celebrations began with the hoisting of the national flag by Police Commissioner C Sudhakar, followed by his inspection of the ceremonial parade.
During the parade, Commissioner C Sudhakar was saluted by the participating contingents, which included police personnel, RAF units, and NCC cadets from Siliguri College and several schools. The Siliguri Metropolitan Police showcased its strength through demonstrations of BRAJ vehicles, water tanks, the Anti-Riot Squad, and VIP bulletproof vehicles.
The parade also featured awareness tableaux focusing on critical social issues, including child marriage, child trafficking, and human trafficking. Public awareness initiatives on creating a drug-free society, safe driving, and traffic rules were highlighted. Some voluntary organisations also took part in the programme.
In addition, a dog show was organized at the Police Commissionerate grounds as part of the Republic Day celebrations.
