77-year-old man falls ill during SIR hearing in Siliguri

Siliguri, 06th January: A 77-year-old man, Himangshu Mohan Das, fell ill while attending an SIR hearing at Netaji Boys’ High School in Siliguri.

As per reports, Das had served in a government job in Arunachal Pradesh and permanently settled in Siliguri in 2007. He was summoned to the hearing because his name did not appear in the 2002 voter list of West Bengal.

During the hearing on Monday, he suddenly became unwell. Local councillors, officials, and people present at the venue immediately assisted him.

Speaking on the incident, his daughter, Chaitali Das Banik, said that although her father fell ill, the hearing was completed, and those present showed kindness and support. She suggested that authorities could consider conducting hearings at home for elderly and ailing individuals.

Siliguri’s Ward No. 20 Councillor, Abhaya Basu, visited Himangshu Mohan Das’s residence to check on his health and expressed concern over the difficulties faced by elderly citizens during such hearings.
