70-year-old woman dies in Siliguri after being hit by private school bus

Siliguri, 08th December: A 70-year-old woman, identified as Dipali Nandi, died after being hit by a private school bus in Siliguri. She was a resident of the Hospital More area under Matigara Police Station.

According to sources, the elderly woman had stepped out of her house for some work on Monday morning. While crossing the three-way junction near Sutki Godown close to the railway line, she was struck by a private school bus.

Police from Matigara Police Station arrived at the spot immediately and rushed the injured woman to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), where doctors declared her dead during treatment.

It is noteworthy that just a week ago, DCP (Traffic) Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed had held a meeting with private school managements to discuss strict measures regarding school bus speed and safety.

The DCP had instructed the schools to curb negligence and control bus speed. However, this tragic incident within a week has once again highlighted lapses in private school bus management.
