66 names, including Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti Karmadhakshya, missing from voter list; protest erupts

Naxalbari, 30th March: Tensions escalated in Naxalbari after 66 voters, including Karmadhakshya of Panchayat Samiti, were reportedly missing from the electoral roll following the publication of the second supplementary list.

Reportedly, the exclusions occurred in Booth No. 25/62 at Sebdulla Jote Primary School in Hatighisa. Earlier, the full voter list released on February 28 had already omitted 40 names, while the status of 111 voters remained under review out of a total of 966 registered voters.

With the release of the second supplementary list, an additional 66 names have been dropped, while 11 cases are still under scrutiny. Among those newly excluded is Ashraf Ansari, Karmadhakshya of the Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti.

Ansari has alleged that the deletions disproportionately affect minority community members and two tribal voters. He further claimed that the actions of the Election Commission of India are politically motivated and intended to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Ansari stated that they have full faith in the Constitution and are seeking justice. He added that his father’s name was on the voter list in 2002, his grandfather voted in 1951, and he possess all the necessary documents.

Other affected voters echoed similar concerns, alleging irregularities in the revision process. The excluded voters expressed anger throughout the day and demanded corrective action from the authorities.
