60 kg cannabis seized from government bus in Phansidewa; three arrested

Phansidewa, 11th July: In a major drug bust, the Ghoshpukur Outpost police have seized 60 kg of cannabis from a government bus and arrested three individuals in connection with the case. The accused have been identified as Ujjwal Shil from Dinhata, Amal Barman from Falakata, and Atmik Pandey from Malda.


Acting on a tip-off, the police carried out an operation on the national highway at Ghoshpukur More in Phansidewa late on Wednesday night. The targeted vehicle, a government passenger bus traveling from Siliguri to Kolkata, was intercepted and searched.

The search led to the discovery of approximately 60 kg of cannabis concealed in three trolley bags located in the bus cabin. The estimated market value of the seized cannabis is said to be in lakhs of rupees. The contraband was reportedly being smuggled from Cooch Behar to Kolkata.


The three accused have been produced in the Siliguri Divisional Court on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Ghoshpukur Outpost police have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident.
