Siliguri, 26th January: The 6-minute short film ‘The Return Gift’ received 47 awards. The short film featuring the actors from Siliguri and directed by the city’s very own Deepika Biswas was released on social media and was also sent to various film festivals.
Within no time, the film started receiving awards one after the other. The film has not only received national but also international awards. Amid this digital era, the filmmaker, through the film, has encouraged the younger generation to read books.
While the leading role is played by 9-year-old Rishita, many other actors including Sushmita Pradhan, Saikat Majila, all hailing from Siliguri, have been featured in the film.
Director Deepika Biswas said that many short films are still being made in North Bengal and there are numerous talented artists. However, the talents are being tainted by a lack of opportunities. After ‘The Return Gift’, Deepika’s new short film ‘Sabak’ is going to be released soon. At the moment, ‘Sabak’ has won an award at the Kolkata International Film Festival.
Younger actor Rishita said that this film is her first work in the acting world. She expressed happiness over receiving the Best Child Artist Award. She wishes to perform even better in the coming days.
