48-year old man trampled to death by elephant in Siliguri

Siliguri, 15th January: A elephant claimed the life of a 48-year old man named Niranjan Roy, a resident of Salugara Shivnagar under Bhakti Nagar police station.


As per the report, a herd of 4 elephants came out of the Baikunthapur forest last night and entered the residential area. As soon as Roy stepped out of his house, one of the elephants dragged him from behind with its trunk and trampled him to death.

Following this, the forest workers of Salugara Range rushed him to the Siliguri District Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. Roy’s body was taken for autopsy this morning.


Meanwhile, the family of the deceased approached the forest department demanding compensation.
