420 bottles of liquor seized, four arrested in Siliguri

Siliguri, 11th June: Pradhan Nagar Police Station has busted an alleged liquor smuggling network operating from Siliguri following a raid at a rented house in the Kalkut area of Devidanga based on a tip-off.

Police recovered a large quantity of liquor from the house and arrested four people in connection with the case. The arrested accused have been identified as Dibakar Roy (42), Dipanshu Kumar (27), Amit Kumar (26) and Pankaj Kumar (20).

According to police sources, the rented house was allegedly being used as a storage centre for liquor, which was prepared to be sent to Bihar. During the raid on Wednesday night, police recovered 420 bottles of liquor stored in 10 large blue plastic drums, with the total quantity estimated at around 210 litres.

The estimated market value of the seized liquor is said to be worth lakhs of rupees. Police suspect that Siliguri was being used as a transit point for smuggling liquor to Bihar due to the demand created by the state’s prohibition law.

Pradhan Nagar Police Station has registered a case under the Excise Act and the four accused are being produced before the Siliguri court. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
