40 buffaloes rescued before smuggling attempt, 2 arrested in Naxalbari

Naxalbari, 29th December: Two individuals were arrested by Naxalbari police for attempting to smuggle 40 buffaloes hidden under sacks of straw in a goods-laden truck. The arrested suspects have been identified as Jahirul Islam and Mofijul Sheikh, both residents of Assam.


According to police sources, they received information about an impending smuggling operation involving buffaloes. Acting on the tip-off, a checkpoint was set up at the Satbhaiya More area, where a truck was intercepted. Upon inspection, police discovered the buffaloes concealed under the straw sacks. The buffaloes were trafficked from Bihar through Alipurduar to smuggle them into Bangladesh.

The arrested individuals were presented at the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday. The police are continuing their investigation to identify others involved in the trafficking ring.
